BOTOX®

SMOOTH WRINKLES

BOTOX® is an injectable treatment that creates smoother, younger-looking skin by temporarily weakening the muscles that cause facial wrinkles when they contract. The treatment can be performed on its own to address a single area of the face where signs of aging are especially visible, or it may be combined with other options for an overall rejuvenated look.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a widely used treatment to diminish the appearance of facial wrinkles. It involves the injection of botulinum toxin under the skin into specific areas around the eyes, forehead, and mouth to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, worry lines, and neck lines. Derived from a purified protein, BOTOX® works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for these wrinkles, resulting in a smoother and more youthful-looking complexion. In addition to its cosmetic applications, BOTOX® may also provide relief for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the eyes and neck.

HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?

Botulinum toxin is produced by a specific type of bacteria. Small doses are used to reduce facial wrinkles. When it is injected, it blocks certain nerve signals that make muscles contract. This makes the muscles relax, and reducing unwanted wrinkles. The effect lasts about 3–6 months on an average. After that, the muscles move again and wrinkles may come back.

WHAT’S THE PROCESS OF BOTOX INJECTIONS?

When you have botulinum toxin injected, your doctor may first rub an anesthetic cream on the area to numb it. Then he or she will inject the medicine into specific facial muscles. This only takes a few minutes, and can be done right in the doctor’s office. Ask your doctor what activities should be avoided immediately after your treatment.

Within the first week of your treatment, you should notice your muscles begin to relax, fewer facial lines, and less wrinkles. This effect wears off in about 3–6 months.
